Spring + Art at the New York Botanical Garden

English

Earth laughs in flowers.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

There is always a certain joy that spring brings! Many will agree.

A botanical garden is one of the best places to enjoy spring and its splendid colors. When adorned with art, it gives off an extra enchantment.

The New York Botanical Garden is like a museum of nature. Founded in 1891, it is a national historic landmark, the largest botanical garden in the United States and one of the greatest in the world. It has exceptional landscape and extensive collections and gardens, as well as different programs for its visitors.

The artwork is from the famous glass sculptor Dale Chihuly. He showcases his work in different spaces of museums, hotels, and transportation hubs around the world. His installations have impressive scales, colors and forms that catch the observer’s attention and make him wonder how it was made.

Walking a portion of the park and discovering the art installations was a delightful experience. The installations are very organic and, in some cases, mimic the natural space around it. It was like discovering art hiding in nature.

The sunlight made the colors of the flowers and the different shades of green more vivid, it was easy to stop and see them up close. The constant contact with nature inspires care for the environment.

If you get a chance, go and experience it as well. Forget about your phone and be present! Walk barefoot on the grass to enjoy a technique called “earthing,” which brings you into direct contact with the surface of the earth. It feels good to be surrounded by nature.

Primavera + Arte en El Jardín Botánico de Nueva York

La tierra ríe a través de flores
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

That day the weather was perfect! A nice soft breeze and the shining sun helped me select an outfit from my wardrobe.

My outfit consisted of colors that were found around the park; The pink of the cherry blooms, burgundy of the flowers, and the blue from some art pieces by Chihuly. I won’t lie, the strappy nude heels came on and off during the walk around the botanical, but it was good to feel the grass.
