My deteriorated White Jacket in NY Fashion Week
This year, I decided to wear a jacket I love to New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter. You can see me wearing this jacket eight years ago in one of my first blog posts (here). I remember I got it at Port Authority in Manhattan. I liked the design with the cutouts and the tulle.
Whenever I think about what I own that I can style for NYFW or any other event, I open my closet and look. This time, I went for this white jacket, and to my surprise, it was peeling and cracking. I was so disappointed; I try to buy timeless pieces that last for years, but this wasn't the case.
As a farewell to my white jacket, I decided to wear it for Fashion Week. I went to a Custo Barcelona runway show with FDLA. I was not aware that my coat was going to peel even more, and I was there with a black dress and white dots from the peeling garment. Some people thought my jacket was supposed to be like that, while others looked at me confused. It got worse when the peeling particles were getting into the clothes of the fashionistas I networked with at the event.
After the show, I took photos by the Shed in Hudson Yards. I feel that this impressive building, part of which moves to accommodate certain events, doesn't get as much attention as the Vessel in the middle of the complex. The building's colors and surroundings went well with my styling. This was a good way to document the last time I used my white jacket; I might upcycle it and turn it into something else. My bag and my belt are made of the same exact material, so in a few years, I will see these deteriorate as well.
Faux leather, also known as synthetic leather, is a petroleum-based alternative to genuine leather. This material not only contributes to fast fashion but also makes the garment disposable.
There are many other alternatives nowadays; I recommend you do your research and be aware of this when you buy something made from this material.

Mi chaqueta blanca deteriorada en la Semana de la Moda de Nueva York

Este año, decidí usar una chaqueta que me encanta en la Semana de la Moda Otoño/Invierno de Nueva York. Puedes verme usando esta chaqueta hace ocho años en una de mis primeras publicaciones en el blog (aquí). Recuerdo que la compré en el Port Authority de Manhattan. Me atrajo el diseño con los recortes y el tul.
Cada vez que quiero crear un look, pienso en lo que tengo y en lo que puedo combinar para la NYFW o cualquier otro evento; abro mi armario y observo. Esta vez opté por esta chaqueta blanca y, para mi sorpresa, estaba pelándose y agrietándose. Estaba muy decepcionada; suelo intentar comprar piezas atemporales que duren años, pero este no fue el caso.
Como despedida de mi chaqueta blanca, decidí usarla para la Semana de la Moda. Asistí a un desfile de Custo Barcelona con FDLA. No era consciente de que mi abrigo se pelaría aún más, y estaba allí con un vestido negro y puntos blancos de la prenda pelada. Algunas personas pensaron que mi chaqueta debía ser así, mientras que otras me miraban confundidas. La situación empeoró cuando las partículas descascaradas se pegaron a la ropa de los amantes de la moda con los que interactué en el evento.
Después del espectáculo, tomé fotografías junto al SHED en Hudson Yards. Siento que este impresionante edificio, parte del cual se mueve para dar cabida a ciertos eventos, no recibe tanta atención como el Vessel en el medio del complejo. Los colores y el entorno del edificio combinaban bien con mi estilo. Esta fue una buena manera de documentar la última vez que usé mi chaqueta blanca; podría reciclarla y convertirla en otra cosa. Mi bolso y mi cinturón están hechos exactamente del mismo material, por lo que dentro de unos años los veré deteriorarse también. He aprendido mi lección.
El cuero sintético es una alternativa al cuero genuino a base de petróleo. Este material no solo contribuye a la moda rápida sino que también hace que la prenda sea desechable. Existen muchas otras alternativas hoy en día; te recomiendo que investigues y seas consciente de esto cuando compres algo hecho con este material.
